the importance of self care

For me, this is self care. This is what I do when I really need to love myself a bit more than usual and unwind. I run myself a hot bath, and throw in whatever cocktail from LUSH I think will best suit my needs. This time, I used a little bit of The Comforter Bubble Bar, some Rose Jam Bubbleroon, Candy Mountain Bubble Bar, Ickle Baby Robot Bath Bomb, finishing off with the Monster Bath Bomb (highly recommend all of these, together or not. They smell divine. Especially the little robot, the lavender scent is just what you want). And some extra bubbles for good measure. It's been a long two weeks, and I needed a soak.

And so, I lit a scented candle, because I can't have a bath without them, and hopped in. I'm still getting through my Christmas scents. While I lay in my sparkly, purple water, I relaxed and let Stephen Fry read a few chapters from the first Harry Potter book to me. I drifted away.

Of course, this doesn't have to be your idea of self care, although this is the idea that is predominantly put forward by social media. There are small things that you can do everyday that count as self care, such as applying a little moisturiser to your hands, or having a good breakfast. Going to bed early. Getting all your fruits and veggies in. I always feel much better after shaving my legs, for example. It's just something small that goes towards me feeling better. Even a hot shower can help to ease any worries or tension. Clean bedding is the best, as it's a delicious and comforting hug every night. Fluffy socks do wonders for my mood sometimes.
Or sometimes there are days where you need to take yourself by the hand, and be that little bit kinder to yourself. Have an early night if you've been pulling a couple of stressful all-nighters. Take some time off from your social life, and just read a book at home, you'll thank yourself for the down time. Spend a day at home in your comfiest clothes/pyjamas, and take time for yourself.
I cannot recommend self care enough, I am a big believer in it. It's becoming something of a social media trend, and I think that takes away from the importance of it. Yes you can have a pamper night, but don't neglect the little things that make you happy. That's what's wonderful about it, it can be something as luxurious as a bubble bath, or something as simple as a cup of tea (especially if made right, or by the right person).
